15 Feb 2013 Scripture Memory “Clinical Trial”: Verse #4

Over the past couple of weeks the Lord has repeated a verse to me over and over and over. Last week I told Him that it would be my next memory verse and here it is- Scripture Memory Verse #4:

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:14-15 (NIV84).

I’ve been chewing on these two verses and just today it hit me like a ton of bricks- God always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ. The Amplified Bible says it this way, “But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory]…”

Jesus Christ will never lead you in defeat, my sister. NEVER! He always leads us in triumph. If find yourself cycling in and out of defeat it’s time to check your spiritual GPS. Who’s leading you? But please don’t misunderstand. This isn’t about comfort vs. hardship. It’s about living as a “more than conqueror” (Romans 8:37) over the trials of this life. It’s about not falling into defeat and despair, but following Christ to victory no matter where the ship sails. God has not called us to a life of comfort. Overwhelming victory is reserved only for those who dare to stand in faith in the midst of trials… believing God when He says, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Be assured that there will be a battle. And there will be weapons forged against you though they will not prevail (Isaiah 54:17). You see, God has not called us to a cruise ship, but a battle ship. Cruises are never as grand as they claim to be (and don’t we know it). Only Jesus can lead us in TRIUMPH. So, let’s get onboard and stay onboard because, as Eugene Peterson translates it, “God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ- and everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance” (MSG).

I so want to be the exquisite fragrance of Christ to everyone I come in contact with. Don’t you?
