24 in Twenty-Ten: Scripture Memory Verse #11

“Hotter Than Hot Here!”

Hi Friends,

Hope you had a marvelous Memorial Day weekend and that you took some time to reflect on the many freedoms you enjoy in this great country and remember the extraordinary men and women who have given their lives to protect that freedom for us.  God bless them and their families and may we never take for granted the privileged nation we are.

Truth; everything really is bigger in Texas… including the heat.  It’s just big heat.  Big heat in Big D and there’s no other way to describe it but to say that it’s hotter than hot.  Feels like an oven and it’s not even summer yet.  Remind me; wasn’t I just building a snow man in my front yard 3 months ago?  Right.  And let me just try to describe to you the lovely feeling of having a hot flash while you’re living in all this heat.

On Sunday, JT and I ventured out in the dead-heat of the afternoon to take dinner to a dear friend; it was suffocatingly hot (is suffocatingly a word?).  We’re driving along and the A/C has barely started to do its thing when I feel a hot flash coming on.  Though I sometimes lovingly refer to them as a “power surge” they really are not surges at all.  They actually “linger” more than they surge or flash, starting in your stomach and then creeping up your back and exploding out the top of your head with sweat spewing from your temples (are you getting a pretty mental picture going).  But as we drove along this particular hot flash lingered a little longer, started to intensify and then creep back down my back and settle in my rear end.  I was about to tear my clothes off when I noticed that someone had accidentally flipped the dang seat heater on high!!

Not cool.

This little commentary has absolutely nothing to do with anything spiritual; just wanted to share a little life with y’all today.  By the way – the intense Texas heat forced me to officially “come out” a few weeks ago and abandon my wig and my vanity along with it.

Well – it’s June 1st already.  We are almost half way to Christmas (just keeping it all in perspective) and we are almost half way to our goal of memorizing 24 verses in 2010!  I am soooo proud of you all for taking this challenge to heart and filling your mind with the Word of God.  You will not regret this time you’ve spent soaking up the Scriptures; the payback will last a lifetime!

Here’s my memory verse #11 for June 1st –

The Sovereign LORD has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary.  Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will.

The Sovereign LORD has spoken to me, and I have listened. I have not rebelled or turned away.     Isaiah 5-:4-5 (NLT)

I love the morning and I love spending my early morning hours with the Lord.  It’s time I cherish with Him; I jealously guard it and look forward to being alone with Him while it is quiet and still outside, before the noise of the day drowns out His voice.  It’s not easy getting up before daylight everyday, but I make it my goal to do so because that time of day is so precious… like no other time of day, and my mind is in just the right condition to hear from Him; to be taught by Him.  Oh, there are days when I hit that snooze button and roll over and “turn away”.  One thing is for sure, if you ask Him the Lord will wake you up in the morning, but He will not drag you out of bed!

You may not be a morning person, but I want to encourage you, once in a while try getting up in the early morning to seek Him.  I promise you’ll love it!

Have a great week, dear ones!  Let me hear from you!!!

Authentically yours…
Punky
