“As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet…” Luke 3:4-6

God wrote a book. One book.
The Bible- the holy Scriptures of God- is the book of God’s words,
written to us, for us, about Himself, that we might know Him.

The word “word” or “words” is the Greek word logos, which means to speak; something said; a word uttered by a living voice; specially the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ).

The gospel of John speaks of Jesus as the essential Word of God, the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world’s life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of man’s salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds. (Strong’s G3056)
 Note: A Greek philosopher named Heraclitus first used the term Logos around 600 B.C. to designate the divine reason or plan which coordinates a changing universe. Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy (2nd ed): Heraclitus, 1999.

So you see, the Bible is not merely ink on a page, but words that are alive and active (Hebrews 4:12), powerful, full of energy. When you read and study God’s words they do much more than educate you; they give you life!

Jesus, the logos of God,
is the language that God speaks.

Oh, the kindness of our God and Savior to speak His logos to us each and every time we open His Book and read His words.

And that is why I keep reading and studying my Bible; the Book of God’s words, forever.

Surrender your day to Him, and get His Words into your mind, into your heart, your ears, in your mouth. His Word will act as the filter for everything else you take throughout the day. His word will be your trustworthy guide, your comfort, and your wisdom to rightly discern truth over error as you navigate the stormy situations in the world.

What Do You Do When the Thrill is Gone? Pray for it! Ask God to kindle an awe for Him in your heart; to be continually thrilled by Him, with a holy awareness. Seek Him… go out and look for Him everywhere. Tell Him how marvelous you find Him to be. Sometimes it’s a matter of detoxing our view from looking at the materialistic beauty of the world, or from gazing at advertisements and movies that distort and corrupt our vision of God’s kingdom. So, pray as the psalmist prayed, “Lord, turn my eyes from worthless things; revive me with your Word” (Psalm 119:37). May we never lose our awe of God!

2 Timothy 2:15 reminds us that we are to work at a

2 Timothy 2:15 reminds us that we are to work at and study the Scriptures to understand them in the right way—to be people who rightly handle the Word of Truth, and not just guess at it. Just because an idea sounds spiritual doesn’t mean it is Biblical Truth.
