Just Do It! (Part 1)

Do you remember the MasterCard “Priceless” ad campaign from a few years ago? You know the ones: Kids with mom and dad picking out a new puppy as the announcer reveals the value of the things seen in the commercial: New puppy: $800; cost of dog food for one year: $600; watching your kids laugh hysterically at the new puppy chasing his tail: PRICELESS!

The way you and I see and handle things depends on its value to us. And our attitude toward God’s Word- how we treat it and how we use it, will reveal its personal value to us. Most of us would never even dream of leaving our house without our cell phone and would even drive back home to fetch it if we did. If only we valued our Bible- the very words of God, as much. If only we respected it as much as we do some popular magazines or websites. If only we relied on it as much as we do the advice from popular talk-show hosts and television commentators.

The Apostle Paul passionately reminds his young disciple, Timothy, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man (and woman) of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). No other book can make those kinds of promises… and keep them! But Paul had me at “God-breathed”. Just think- the very breath of God’s Spirit that inspired the writers with His very words, and that’s what you hold in your hands: The God-breathed Word of God!

Oh, dear one, let’s make it our passionate prayer to have the proper attitude about the Bible; to be quick to listen and obey what the Word says; slow to speak and slow to anger when it disagrees with our opinions or confronts our lifestyle. All the while, thanking Him that He cares enough and loves enough to speak His Truth to us!

The cost of spending time with God in His Word: PRICELESS!

You are greatly and dearly loved by the King!
