Breathing Room – Day 10

Psalm 145:10 (NLT)

All of your works will thank you, Lord,
and your faithful followers will praise you.

TO DO TODAY: Applaud God!

We love applause. We love giving it. We love receiving it. Think about the things you applaud. Jot a few down. Some of mine are: a concert or theatrical performance, a powerful message, my granddaughters’ accomplishments, my fave sports teams and more. We easily give applause to things we deem applause-worthy. But we don’t as easily applaud God who has given us everything- including all the things we applaud.

The Lord told the people of Israel through the prophet Isaiah that at the end of their 70-year exile in Babylon they’d, ”go out in joy and be led forth in peace…” and that even the mountains & hills would erupt in singing, and the trees would applaud!

Exiled- because they’d cultivated a lifestyle of disobedience, and habitual disloyalty to God, Israel was captured and taken away to Babylon. Taken away from all that the’d known and loved in Israel; away from their beautiful city, Jerusalem and all the good things they enjoyed there. Stripped of all the creature comforts & accomplishments they’d applauded and become dependent on, Israel was forced into a kind of stillness- where they’d refocus on God, the one who’d given them both life and the livelihood they’d grown to worship. Exile was their opportunity to reset & become true God worshipers again.

As the saying goes, “You’ll never know that God is all you need until God is all you’ve got.” Do you find yourself in a forced stillnes? Stop. Look. Listen. Then, ask God what purpose he has for you in this time, this place & in this space he has you in today. Ask him to cultivate in you a heart of worship- where it’s all about him. In this time of forced stillness, learn to sit still & be still- in your mind & in your heart, and know God as you’ve like never before.

Thank God with applause. Find something to clap about. The sunrise every morning; the sunset every evening. Go outside, stand before your Creator God, and put your hands together for the One who loves our applause, and has made you & me to applaud HIM.

If the hills were made to sing, if the trees were made to applaud, if the stars were made to worship… so will I!

I love y’all!
