23 Mar Breathing Room – Day 5
Psalm 145:5 (NLT)
I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor
and your wonderful miracles.
Repeated thoughts are powerful thoughts.
What are you thinking about right now? And how long have you been thinking about it? Whether you realize it or not, we are all meditating on something. Meditation is simply thinking deeply about something— over and over and over again. Biblically speaking it means to imagine, to ponder, to murmur, muse, speak or declare. Think about the way a cow chews its cud over and over and over again. That’s what meditation is.
The bible teaches us that in order to understand God’s Word and put it into practice in our everyday life, we must continually read it and think about it— “chew it up” and metabolize it into our lives. Read Psalm 119 and count how many times the psalmist talks about meditating, thinking, declaring and speaking God’s Word.
NOTE: The thoughts we think (in our mind) are programming our brains (the organ) to tell our body to respond (or live) in a certain way. Read anything the Dr. Caroline Leaf has written (ie Switch on Your Brain); her research corroborates this both scientifically & biblically.
We live in the direction of our thoughts. Meditation engages our minds, causing us to think deeply about something, allowing it to continually roll around and around in our thoughts to the extent that it comes out in our words and our actions. Therefore, as our thoughts go, so we go. So what you think about over and over again (meditate on) is going to drive you in one of two directions: toward fear or toward faith.
We are living in very troubling times. I don’t even need to elaborate on that. But what I will elaborate on is this— we have got to get our heads in God’s Word and start thinking the way God thinks. It will not happen by accident. We have to discipline ourselves and step away from the “devices” that distract and derail us with the world’s chatter— and intentionally, purposefully, and desperately read the bible. Only God‘s Word has the power to reach inside our minds and attack “stronghold” thoughts, lies, fears and doubts!
And so I’ll say it again: Girl, read your bible! Read your bible! Read your bible! And let God blow your mind with the awesome wonder of who he is!
And don’t forget to remember that you are greatly and dearly loved by The King!
I love y’all!
