Breathing Room – Day 8

Psalm 145:8 (NLT)

The Lord is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

What would Jesus do? Remember those WWJD bracelets that were a thing in the 90’s? The point was to get people to think about what Jesus might do… and then do likewise. But I often wondered why nobody ever included: “Now go do it!” It’s one thing to ask what Jesus would do; it’s another to actually watch what Jesus would do and then imitate him.

It’s been said that “More is caught than taught.” And at some level, we’re all teaching somebody something. With parenting- we try to set good examples for our kids with our life, with our language and our beliefs so they’ll grow up in a way that causes them to flourish and makes us proud. As leaders, we model for others particular behaviors and ways of doing things that lead to success and productivity.

The Christian Life is no different. The goal of the follower of Christ is to “conformed to the image of Christ” (Romans 8:29) or, to become like Jesus. And the way we become like Jesus is to be like Jesus… by following his example and obeying his Word. Ephesians 5:1 is really pretty straightforwardsays, “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.”

Psalm 145:8 spells it out:
The Lord is merciful.
The Lord is compassionate.
The Lord is slow to get angry.
The Lord is filled with love unfailing love.

  • God is not stingy with mercy and compassion. Neither should we be.
  • God is not a hothead that losses it over the slightest offense. And neither should we be.
  • God is overflowing with love that he never takes back— gushing it out, over and over again. And so should we.
  • Copy God. Follow his example— because you wear his Name, make him proud!

I love y’all!
