Breathing Room – Day 9

Psalm 145:9 (NLT)

The Lord is good to everyone.
He showers compassion on all his creation.

God is good. Good is not just what God does— Good is who God is. He has always been good and he can never cease to be good. He is always good. “But,” asked the little girl, “if God is good, then why do bad things happen?” The question she’s really asking is the questions we’re all asking in our in our own little-girl-hearts: Is God really good? Because when bad things happen we tend to doubt who God says he is. So we have to go back to the very beginning and see:

  1. How it all started: “And God saw that everything he had made was good” (Genesis 1-2).
  2. How it all fell apart:  Because of one tragic thing… Sin (Genesis 3-6). Sin is disobedience; it’s missing the mark; going against God and the his prescribed way for us to live the best life he intended for us to live and to enjoy.

Sin caused a domino effect and everything fell apart— all creation ceased to function perfectly as God originally created it. Worse yet, when sin crept into the heart of man it caused a global pandemic more deadly than anything we’ve every known.

Going against God has eternal consequences— namely, eternal death and separation from God. Sin was not God’s choice, it was man’s choice. The fallout of that choice plagues us to this very day and will continue to do so until Jesus Christ returns.

And there in lies the goodness of God bodily: JESUS— the Savior of the World. God is so good that he has showered compassion on us in Jesus Christ. He made a way for us to come back to him, sending the One and Only perfect sacrifice to die in our place and to take away our sin— past, present, future, and permanently, if we would but only believe in Jesus, place our faith in him and make him Lord of our lives.

So, let’s take that question apart and reframe it as a statement: God is good, and bad things happen because man chose to sin against God; but God is good and he made a way— the only Way to reconnect him with the people he loves.

The Way has a name and his name is Jesus! And he is good!

I love y’all!
