08 Oct Have Courage
Jesus *insisted* that his disciples get in the boat and cross to the other side of the Sea of Galilee while he stayed behind. He knew exactly what they were headed into. No sooner did they leave the shore than the wind kicked up strong and fierce, and waves crashed over the boat scaring the seasoned fishermen half to death. As if that wasn’t enough, along comes Jesus walking ON THE WATER. They thought he was a ghost until he spoke those familiar words: “Don’t be afraid. Take Courage. I am here!”
Peter shouted over the wind, “Lord if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water!” to which Jesus replied, “Alright, c’mon!” (grin).
And c’mon he did! Over the side of the boat he went, and standing up on shaky legs he walked on the water toward Jesus, one soggy step after another. But the wind was roaring; Peter became frightened and started to sink. Like any drowning person he hollered, “Save me, Lord!” Immediately Jesus reached out and grabbed him, chiding, “Why did you doubt me?” But I bet he was grinning ear to ear that while Peter had a little bit of faith, nevertheless, his feet were wet! They both climbed into the boat; the wind calmed down and immediately they arrived at the other side of the lake. Boom!
Here’s the deal, y’all- ALL the disciples made it to the other side; but only Peter had the WET FEET of fearless faith.
Fear is a big fat storm blowing in your head. Fear keeps you in the boat. Fear paralyzes you. Fear keeps your feet dry with doubt. Fear robs you of the life you have yet to live & keeps you from fulfilling your God-given assignment on this planet.
Life is full of storms; strong winds of trials and waves of surprises that scare us. But listen- if Jesus is in your boat you’re going to make it to the other side! Me too! You know why? Because Jesus has promised we will. But golly, y’all, I want my feet to be soaking wet with faith when I get there, don’t you?
Roll up your jeans, friend. Jesus is calling you out of the boat. Don’t be afraid, don’t let fear get a grip on your life. Jesus won’t let you down & he won’t let you drown. Go on! Get your feet wet!
I love y’all!
