June’s Recap: Help!

Hey there, friends!

The infamous lyrics of John Lennon and Paul McCartney could not have been more perfectly penned for such a time as this: “HELP! I need somebody! HELP! Not just anybody! HELP! You know I need someone! HELP!”

We need help now more than ever. But I don’t need to tell you that. A quick recap of the daily news shows us the chaotic condition we’re in and our desperate need for help. We’re looking, searching, asking, hoping for something… someone to help us figure it all out– or better, just make it all go away.

But where do we get help… real help for the condition we’re in? Let’s listen to what the Psalmist writes in Psalm 121:1-2, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

The psalmist is looking for help. First, he lifts his to the hills, and then he asks a question: “From where does my help come?” He could have been thinking of running away to the hills and mountains to escape his troubles; or it could imply that the usual place people of Near Eastern culture sought help was from the gods who were believed to dwell on the mountain tops.

In times of trouble, when you need help, who or what do you usually turn to first?

You and I are bombarded with the hills of the worldly culture all around us shouting answers and advice: the news media, politicians, doctors and medicine, civil rights activists, spiritual advisors, social media “influencers” and the World Wide Web… offering us help for our circumstances.

But who can we trust?

“I look to the hills, where does my help come from?” It’s a question, not an answer.

Real Help is found where the world won’t direct you: from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. If we want real help for what concerns and for what’s wrong with this planet, then it makes sense that the One who can really help us is the One who made heaven and earth.

In this unstable world there is only one thing that is stable, unshakable, solid, trustworthy and 100% true all the time: the solid rock of God’s Word. Sisters, now more than ever it’s is critically important that you take time daily to meet with God in His Word—to listen to him so you can get the real help you need.

HELP is a person who has a name: JESUS. And he is the Only One who can do anything about everything that concerns us.

I pray a happy, healthy summer for each of you. I love y’all dearly, and don’t you forget that you are greatly and dearly loved by The King!

P.S. Thank you all for your continued encouragement and support for this Life on Life Ministry.

I’d love to hear from you—how you’re doing, what God’s teaching you, and anything I can pray for you about. As for me, I’m hard at work this summer on the re-edit of “Falling in Love with Jesus”- the bible study I’ve written. The Lord willing, I hope to be able to tie a bow on it by the end of August. I’d appreciate your prayers for that!
