15 Nov Out Into The Deep
Doing the same thing the same way = the same results. And then Jesus calls to us, “Follow me!” out into the deep, away from the comfort of the shallows.
Out into the deep, away from ease of living marginally.
Out into the deep where your feet can’t touch the familiar, safe bottom of what you’ve always known… and think you control.
Out into the deep where the swells of life overwhelm and frighten and threaten to drown you.
Out into the deep, where you’ve never been before…that’s where Jesus calls us. That’s where Jesus leads us. That’s where Jesus takes us… not alone, but out into the deep with him. Only with Jesus— following him, grabbing our net and getting back in our boat, but taking new orders, obeying a new command to push out into the depths of life WITH HIM.
Out into the deep with Jesus— that’s where we experience his power and the Kingdom purpose of our life; that’s where we fulfill his mission. No matter what our vocation may be, our mission is the same: “Following Jesus and catching people” for Christ.
Jesus’ disciples had been doing the same thing over and over again. And then he simply said to them, “Do it different. Go deeper. Let me show you, let me help you, let me lead you, let me go with you.”
Jesus wants control of your whole life. Not just a little piece of it, all of it. He won’t settle for a few fish in your net; he wants your nets so full of fish that your friends have to help you haul it in! Because when you do what you do for Jesus and with Jesus, your nets will always be overflowing.
Begs the question: How many fish are in your net?
So, this week— get back at it, go back to work, go back to school, go back to what you typically do; BUT this time let Jesus into your boat. Go out into the deep, deep, deep, deeper still with him. That’s where self-sufficiency is lost and trust happens. That’s where “life-as-we-know-it” vanishes and “more than you can imagine” becomes the norm. That’s where the adventure of your life awaits. Don’t miss it!
I love y’all!
