Pursuit and Process

When we receive Jesus Christ, he says, “Come, follow me, and I will make you into something. I’ll make you to become something” (Mark 1:17, my paraphrase).

So, we see here that it’s a pursuit to follow Jesus. It means to come behind him, to stick with him, to know him by watching what he does and listening to what he says. Then we imitate that– putting it to use in our everyday life. That’s called obedience …to do what he says and do what he does. As a result, when we obey him, we grow to love him more. And he says in John 14, “If you love me, you’ll do what I tell you to do. You’ll obey my commands.” So, it’s a pursuit of Jesus Christ.

It’s also a process. Jesus says, “I will make you become fishers of men.” He is making us to become something. As we follow him in obedience and take the Word of God and work it into our lives, we *become* something. It’s the process then of becoming like Jesus himself.

As we mature in our faith, Ephesians 4:15 says that we are to “grow up into Christ.” Romans 8:29 says that we are to be “conformed to the image of Christ.” The more we follow Jesus, the more we are transformed and conformed to the image of Christ to be like him, to look like him, to sound like, and to think like him to talk like him, to treat others like he would.

Remember, there are no quick fixes to becoming mature in our faith… only a pursuit and a process. And the Holy Spirit will help us when we step out and do the thing.

I love y’all!
