Safely Home

A million stars were exploding early this morning as our sweet mama went Home with Jesus— the Love of her life. She suffered little on the home stretch, and her heart literally beat wildly with excitement as she took her last breath here on this earth… and her very next breath in the arms of the One who has loved her forever and was most thrilled to welcome her Home at last…smothering her with kisses and beaming as he told her, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”

Over the last 11 years of her life Mother developed the most authentic, deeply abiding child-like faith in Jesus… like no one else I know. He was her constant companion and conversationalist (they talked non-stop), and her very best friend. And she was unflinching, unwavering in telling everybody she knew all about him. Even last week when she was admitted to the hospital the nurse told me, “Your Mom is a joy to be with, and she told me all about Jesus and how much I needed him in my life!” And she would remind us at the close of every phone call with her, “And don’t forget to talk to Jesus. He’s your best friend! God bless you!”

Our hearts are broken because we miss her and weren’t permitted to spend time with her these past 10 months. Nevertheless we are filled with great joy because she has seen Jesus face to face! And we know with certainty that we will see her again. For with Jesus, we never say “goodbye” to our loved ones, but only “so long for now.”

Thank you, Jesus, for giving us to Diane, our Mother, to love us, nurture us, to give us life through her that we might know you as our Lord and Savior.

Oh, Mother, you have left an indelible mark on me… on us all, and we will miss you every single day until we see you again. Enjoy your first Christmas with Jesus, Mama!

Well done, Mother. Well done!

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known.
I Corinthians 13:12

Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.
