19 Mar Straight Talk about Finding the Purpose in Pain
Pain. It’s inevitable. It’s unpredictable.
You walk this planet long enough and you’re going to experience some pain. It is the great equalizer, as it shows no partiality, aiming at anyone and everyone regardless of status. It comes in many forms, many strengths, and it’s duration can be moments, days, weeks, years, decades or an entire lifetime. With its velocity and ferocity it can tear at your heart, your flesh, your mind, and your relationships. And despite it all, God allows it. Pain, you see, is perhaps the greatest teacher. There are lessons to be learned that only pain can teach us. So much of who God is can best be understood in the classroom of pain. And while we may never know the reason for our pain this side of heaven, we can be assured that God has purpose in the pain. We can be certain that if God allowed the pain- even the pain we bring on ourselves, that He has considered it all and predetermined that there be some purpose in it. Some profound purpose that fits into His eternal plan…for our own good, for the good of those around us, and for His great glory. There is only One who can walk the road of pain with you and me, who can go deep into our pain and suffering and know firsthand what it feels like and He can be trusted. If He brought you to it, He will bring you- or carry, you through it… and teach you much about His amazing grace, mercy, and love in the process. Your pain matters to Him, and He works in it for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
God has a purpose for your pain, a purpose to come from your pain, and a blessing for your faithfulness to hold onto Him throughout.
Last week I spoke to a group of women about this very subject. Here’s a link to the message. I hope it blesses you and helps you to get the right perspective on your pain, by getting the right perspective on your God who loves you so.
