The Royal Law of Love

The holiday season is here and now! This year has absolutely flown by- and the older I get the faster they fly! You too? Well, I sure do hope that you’re enJOYing this blessed and special time of year and that you and yours will throttle back and take in the sights, sounds, smells and simple pleasures of the season.  John and I are off to spend Thanksgiving with our family in Orlando where there’s never a lack of food or fun in equal measure. But with 33 people for dinner there’s always the potential for a little bit of stress. So, here’s the motto my cousin, Barbara, and I live by during the holiday season: Just be EASY-BREEZY! We have laughed about that for years, but it was only just the other day that I realized “easy-breezy” is really Biblical!!

EASY: I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13)
BREEZY:  Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6) [Spirit can also be translated wind]

I find that the more easy-breezy I am the more gracious and merciful I am with others, and the more thankful I am in general. And really, we have so much to be thankful for… so much to praise our God and King for! I’m going to try to take some extended time daily to focus on just that: The many blessings… the “gifts” that God has given to me. Some of those gifts have come wrapped in the most unattractive and downright ugly wrapping, but they have proved to be gifts just the same. Great gifts, as a matter of fact! But what makes something a gift? I suppose that has more to do with the heart and mind; the heart and mind of the of the one who gave the gift. When we know God and trust God, we know that He only gives us what will be for our good and His glory.

Oh, that we would ask the Lord for the heart and attitude to receive from His hand His “gifts”… and to be grateful for them all. Will you join me in counting His gifts to you this year? Let me hear from you… I’d love to know what some of your most treasured “gifts” are… and what kind of “paper” they came wrapped in!

So there you go, girls… let’s practice an easy-breezy holiday and I’ll bet we just end up with more grateful hearts! Here’s one you can start with…

…you are greatly and dearly loved by the King!
