Um, ok

You know, people talk a big talk. I’ve heard a lot of talk out there about people threatening to load up their rifles in their attempt to stand firm and defend their faith. Um, ok.

Don’t get me wrong– I think we need to defend our faith. But standing FOR faith is different than standing IN faith.

It’s easy to give a lot of lip service to standing for our faith— but the fact is that most of us have not even shared our faith with anyone… let alone anyone that intimidates us. We say we’ll load up our rifle and stand for our faith, but will we ever take the time and consider the depths of the gospel and the implications of it… and then stand and share our faith and tell someone about Jesus Christ?

Y’all, that’s the gospel—the Good News of Jesus. Why don’t we share it? Likely, because we’re scared. Scared of being looked at or thought of as weird, scared of being excluded, or cancelled or just… scared.

In Jeremiah 12, Jeremiah is making his complaint to the Lord about the difficulties he’s experiencing while he delivers the warning to the people (the warning the Lord had sent him there to give). The Lord replies in verse 5 saying, “If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?” God is telling Jeremiah, if your faith is so weak, that right now you cower, even when somebody challenges you on your faith, how are you going to stand up when you’re really in the midst of turmoil that is certain to come?

So what are you standing on? Who are you standing on? Because if you don’t stand firm IN your faith, in the belief of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that it is the power of God for salvation, to anyone who believes– any man, any woman, any person who believes– then you will never stand FOR your faith in the heat of an attack, in the face of adversity. You’ll not stand at all.

Who do you know that needs to hear the Gospel? Write their name down and pray for them; then ask God to open up an opportunity for you to share your faith in Jesus with them— soon. Start by telling them your story of the difference Jesus has made in your life.

If you don’t know how to stand firm, study along with me. Catch up on the first 3 episodes of this podcast season at punkytolson.com/podcast.
