What God Finds Most Attractive

True beauty can’t be bought. It doesn’t come from a needle or a knife, or from a bottle or a jar. It’s not found on a runway or on a hanger; it doesn’t sparkle, dazzle, or shine. It’s not teased up or dolled up. Nope.

True beauty is this: the unfading loveliness of a quiet and gentle spirit. That’s the very thing that God finds attractive and precious in a woman. He absolutely delights in this kind of beauty that is holy… refreshingly different; set apart from the rest.

God’s Word tells us in 1 Peter 3:1-6 that this kind of holy beauty is an enduring beauty, the kind that lasts and just keeps getting more beautiful with age— no matter what the mirror says.

Years ago I read a book by Sheila Walsh called “Honestly.” It really impacted my life, but one thing struck me and I’ve never forgotten it (I think it was something her counselor said to her), “God loves a woman with a quiet and gentle spirit. Write that down and say it every day.”

At the time I was single and wanted desperately to be married. But my love for Jesus was growing and I wanted so much for him to find me beautiful and precious. So, I wrote that phrase out on a card, kept it on my nightstand, and repeated it for decades every night before I went to bed.

There’s power in the living and active Word of God to change us… transforming us from the inside out as we obey him, as we pray— asking him for the things he already desires for us to have and to be. And if God says that a quiet & gentle spirit is what he finds attractive and precious in a woman— then I want that. Don’t you?

A woman with a quiet & gentle spirit is a woman vibrant in faith, strong in character and full of life; a woman who radiates the love, light, peace and joy of Jesus. And that comes from spending regular quiet time with Jesus daily.

Do you know a woman like that? Pay attention to some of the older women in your life, godly women in your church or community. Spend time with them, learn from them; ask one of them to disciple you in your faith, to help you grow and cultivate a deep, abiding, intimate walk with Jesus— that produces a quiet and gentle spirit that God finds precious.

I love y’all!
