Are you on Instagram? C’mon and do a little life-on-life with me!

Jesus said, “Come *follow* me…” (Mark 1:17).
Jesus said, “Come *follow* me…” (Mark 1:17). So, what does following him mean? Simply—

Come after me;
Stick close behind me;
Walk the same path of life that I walk;
Let me be your Leader, your Good Shepherd, your Master;
Learn from me and do what I do,
Say what I say,
Love whom I love…

…And in the process you will *become* like Me.

Church attendance doesn’t make you a follower of Christ.
Tithing doesn’t make you a follower of Christ.
Going to seminary doesn’t make you a follower of Christ.
Leading a ministry doesn’t make you a follower of Christ.
These are all good and worthy things, but in and of themselves, they do not make a person a “follower of Jesus Christ.”

What makes a person a follower of Jesus…is following Jesus.

Start now.

1.) Open your Bible to the Gospel of John and follow Jesus through the pages of Scripture. Listen to what he says; watch what he does and how he does it; look at who he hangs out with; see who he loves. Pay close attention to every aspect of his life and how he lived it!

2.) Then, go and do likewise.

That’s how we follow Jesus. And when we follow Jesus, we will *become* like Jesus! #lifegoal, Romans 8:29.

And If at first you don’t succeed, just know that you’re not alone. Nobody follows perfectly 100% of the time. But there’s grace and the power of the Holy Spirit to get back up, fall in line and get going again.

Don’t worry; he’ll wait for you; he will help you. Good Shepherds always do.

I love y’all!

One of the great joys of being still and enjoying
One of the great joys of being still and enjoying the presence of God is that He tells you things in His Word, and He shows you stuff… things about Himself that you may never have noticed had you not slowed down long enough to see:

Like HIS footprints of grace all over your past.

Like the monuments…cathedrals of grace HE has built out of the rubble of your life.

Like the messages of encouragement and ministry that HE has brought out of your many messes— all for His glory, for your good, and for the benefit of others that they may come to know HIM.

It’s not about you, it’s about Him. If you’ll stop, turn around and look, He’ll show you what He’s done in your life, and you won’t be able to keep that to yourself. You’ll tell everyone you know that Jesus is everything.

"Then the woman left her water jar, went back into the town, and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” So they left the town and made their way toward Jesus” (John 4:28-30).

I love y’all!

God has called us all to some assignment or vocati
God has called us all to some assignment or vocation…a *calling* in life. But the slippery slope of fulfilling your calling is that so often the calling becomes the main thing we’re after. And what can happen is that we end up trying to do the assignment God has given us, and gifted us to do— but without God.

Here’s the thing: there is no calling without the One who calls us first to—

Seek him.

Find him.

Know him.

Follow him.

Love him.

And that *unique* calling he’s assigned to you will happen out of the overflow of your pursuit of Jesus. So, seek him first, above all else—not what he has for you to do, but seek *him* to find who he is. It’s in knowing him, and loving him, and following him all the days of your life that you’ll find him to be everything; and in finding him you’ll fulfill what he’s created and called you to do.

Run hard after JESUS, not your calling. Make him your wholehearted, passionate pursuit.

I love y’all!

We lean in the direction of our longings; the thin
We lean in the direction of our longings; the thing or things that captivate our heart and mind will determine our course in life— what we do and where we go. So, we will either be positively or negatively affected by the affections of our heart.

Therefore, what we love most must be a love that is 100% faithful, reliable and trustworthy; a love that never lets us down or ever lets us go; a love that never changes its mind about us, turns it’s back and forgets about us; a love that only has what’s best for us, and never loses affection for us. Ever.

Doesn’t it make sense then, that the only true love worth loving with all you’ve got is the Lover of your soul Who has loved you with all He had to give?

What is your heart crying out for?
What are your deepest longings?
What do you love first, most and best?
What are you chasing after and where is it leading you?
Where are you searching and what are you seeking to get filled up with, satisfied with or thrilled by?
And how are you going about getting that?

Whatever that thing is, whoever that one is— will never be able to love you and satisfy you like Jesus will.

Love him first, most, and best and watch how far he takes you in the right direction!

I love y’all!

Stillness is critical to our relationship with God
Stillness is critical to our relationship with God. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” The way to know God is to be still or "cease striving” as the term means. And we are a striving people.

Striving is what our flesh does; but stillness is what our soul craves— and God knows it. He knows it’s critical for us to be still in his presence; spending intentional time *listening* to Him in His Word, because that’s the way we come to truly know our God. In fact, if we, God’s children, don’t learn to quiet ourselves and get still in his presence, he’ll force a stillness on us... kind of like a Holy Time Out.

Look at this passage from Job 37—

God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
For to the snow he says, ‘Fall to earth,’
and to the torrential rains, ‘Pour down.’
He causes everyone to stop working, so that all people may know his work.
Job 37:5-7, NET

The snowfall, the downpour of the rain...forces a stillness on us by God’s design so that we may know Him, and consider His ways, be awed by His wonders…and in so doing, we cultivate intimacy with the Almighty.

Be still (cease striving, push away the distractions),
and know (get to know Him intimately, by experience),
that I am God (know who He is, and that He is everything).

Think about it.

I love y’all!

Isaiah chapter 7 sets up our theme for this season
Isaiah chapter 7 sets up our theme for this season with the Life on Life podcast. In this chapter, Isaiah brings a word from the Lord to King Ahaz. He was afraid - King Ahaz, that is. He was *terrified* because the northern army of Israel had colluded to join forces with enemy armies to attack Jerusalem. Isaiah 7:2 tells us, “the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.” Needless to say, King Ahaz was *freaked out.*

King Ahaz did not believe God. More so, “he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord” (2 Kings 17, 2 Chronicles 28). The Lord knew that Ahaz was afraid and so, in His great mercy, He sent Isaiah with a word to Ahaz and said, “Look, Ahaz calm down. Don’t panic; it’s going to be alright. They’re not going to attack you; their plans will not succeed” (Punky Tolson paraphrase). And the Lord warned Ahaz with this: “But, if you do not stand firm in your faith you will not stand at all” (Isaiah 7:10).

Why would the Lord do that? He was challenging King Ahaz’s faith. Horribly, King Ahaz doesn’t accept this challenge and instead turns his back on God, continuing to sin and to lead the people of Judah in sin; and eventually he got what was coming to him.

What’s the point? This is a powerful message for you and me today - just as God was challenging Ahaz, we are facing a challenging time in our faith. I’ll unpack this tomorrow in the next episode of #lifeonlifepodcast. For now, let me leave you with this thought:

Is your faith strong enough to keep you standing firm when everything around you is shaking?

Do you know the God you believe in?

Do you, in fact, *believe* him?

I love y’all!

How deep the Father’s love for us, How vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son. To make a wretch His treasure.
~ Stuart Townend

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.”
John 3:16 - The Message

Start your day off on a “Love Note.” First thing in the morning, before your feet hit the floor, tell Jesus you love him. Say it out loud to him so that your own ears can hear your own voice declare your love to the Lover of your soul.

One of my sweet friends, Judith, shared with me recently how she has been doing that each morning & throughout the day, and how it has lifted her heart and kept her focused on the true love of her life.

Think deeply about how much the Lord loves *you* and how he has shown you his love. Read the Song of Solomon and *listen* to the loving and adoring words he speaks to his “beloved.” That’s YOU. You are Jesus’ beloved, and he wants to be yours!

So, try this for the next 16 days—through the rest of the month of February, tell Jesus you love him— first thing in the morning and throughout the day. Tell him how much you love him. Once you start you won’t be able to stop!

Nobody loves you like Jesus does, friend, and he declares his love over your life- not just one day a year, but every single day! And he loves to hear you declare it over him!

“I am my beloved’s and my Beloved is mine.”
Song of Solomon 6:3

I love y’all!
